Re: Off Land - latest albums, Unknown Frequencies & Axial Precession
hi off land, just listened to your new album unknown frequencies, really nice stuff. liking the mix of ambient techno with sequences and strange sounds between tracks. like a really good modern update of that classic 90s sound.

Re: Mind Maps 4
yes I love that warmup bit its a shame it got edited down to just 4 minutes on 7.003. could have easily been 8 or 9 mins without any complaints!! might be my favourite mind maps, at least since the first. seems a bit less of that 2002-era idm sound that most touched music artists seem obsessed with,...

Re: Humanoid - Sweet Acid Sound - expanded CD edition out now
some decent stuff here, a nice mix of humanoid acid and fsol atmospherics. not quite my direction of choice but its got a good solid style throughout while being quite varied too. I still think this sound works better in humanoid context rather than trying to mix it in with ambient on fsol albums

Re: Compilation tracks & Remixography
damaged cells doesn't sound quite right to me, reminds me of humanoid of five years ago rather than modern. idler has the same mix of acoustic drums and lack of melody as a lot of e7 stuff so that's my guess. now I think about it dead giveaway doesn't sound remotely like fsol to me so the fact that ...

some good sounds here, look forward to hearing the full thing. 92/93 style is definitely appealing

Re: Environment 7 trilogy
finally listened to 7.003. I like future testaments, kwahuu and I'm eating here, desolate stretch of night road and where all is ending are nice, nothing else really grabbed me though. a lot of it kind of sounds unfinished to me. like there's some beats and then that's it. on the whole id definitely...

Re: Record Store Day 2023 - Tales of Ephidrina and Life in Moments expanded reissues
mixed feelings on this - fresseline sounds like amorphous and doesn't really fit even on that album, the others are nice tho. the alt swab is annoying, mountain path is now released as both fsol and aa which is confusing. here's hoping virgin decide they want to do expanded versions of other albums ...
Re: Hello all
When Life in Moments was released, I ended up sending FSOL a message via Bandcamp as I found it it had sold out within less than ten mins after me getting the notification. To my surprise it was Brian that replied. We had a little exchange and I mentioned the Essential Festival and possible live ev...

Re: A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 out October 2022
I suppose that makes sense, i think my favourite fsol is where they're working together, but then I do like some of the earlier environments which are still mostly Brian. it seems with the rearrival of humanoid on the scene that it seems to have marked a move towards a more aggressive and colder idm...

Re: A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 out October 2022
Yeah, I think FSOL isn't in organic ambient mode at the moment. I think the word organic might be a good way of describing what I'm talking about. the current music sounds the opposite, it sounds really rigid. there are no real grooves or much warmth. I listened to it again earlier and followed it ...

Re: A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 out October 2022
quite a few listens now, its definitely an improvement on the past few releases but still feels quite generic and anonymous in places. a track like intents and purpose sounds like the sort of thing any idm producer, professional or not, could have made in the last 20 years. how forests think and exi...

Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
fair play to you for carrying on with the band tbh, if someone was downplaying the seriousness of an illness I had I don't think I could enjoy listening to their music!

Re: A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 out October 2022
Someone on Facebook said similar, and I'd say the preview tracks are baffling choices, the three most minimal and uncharacteristic pieces. ok, I took the dive based on your review and agree that this is a lot better than rituals. its still not a favourite on first play but there are a lot of very g...

Re: A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 out October 2022
not very taken with the three preview tracks, pretty but very much on the cold minimal side. might try and track down a copy online somewhere before buying tbh.
