Re: Saw THE ORB last night

Yeah I think that's the thing, I consider myself a fan of The Orb, but they wouldn't be that high in my all time ranking. I just wish they didn't scramble up the melody and beat of beautiful tunes such as Perpetual Dawn, Blue Room and Toxygene. Respect though to Alex for using actual vinyl records!

Re: Saw THE ORB last night

I've also seen The Orb last night, they were playing in my hometown! Actually their set was part of a bigger festival, and honestly they were not my primary reason for going, but rather Sunn O))) was! If you know Sunn and The Orb, you'd probably agree when I say that musically they're like ice and f...

Re: What are you listening to?

Haha, perhaps you can not hear them anymore :) Play "Supercontinents" in a player that also shows an amplitude spectrum (Winamp has one), and see what happens from 0:04 to about 0:12. Huge continuous spike in the higher frequency range. That sounds really unnatural, it almost literally hur...

Re: What are you listening to?

FSOL - The Wheel of Life Beautiful opening song to a great album. It sets the mood nicely, although that takes a sharp turn quickly when the quite eerie No Man's Land starts. I personally can not stand the high frequency sweeps during the next two songs and as such often find myself skipping right ...

Re: What are you listening to?

@seedy: Two big fat thumbs up to Planetary Unfolding!!!! So hard to find (I still don't have a legit copy..). This album showed to me how powerful ambient music can really be. I'm not a big fan of most of his other work though. @epitome: For me it's the other way. But I prefer the black version, onl...

Re: What are you listening to?

FSOL - An End Of Sorts Easily one of my top5 favorite FSOL tracks. I don't understand why it's not on the reissue! That part where they combined all the different percussions is epic. This track has Lifeforms written all over it, might as well have replaced one of the weaker ones on the album...

Re: Saw THE ORB last night

wow this thread took a turn Yeah, working really gets in the way of listening to music! I dunno, depends on your type of job. I sit behind a desk most of my time doing mindnumbingly boring work that barely requires any attention, so I make good use of my smartphone, corporate wi-fi and Spotify! :mrg...

Re: Sean of Autechre on FSOL

That's very cool to read! Although I don't "understand" most of Autechre's music at all, and I have tried many times.

Re: Saw THE ORB last night

Nice one, seedy!
Always sucks to be late to a concert man, I know how that feels! Part of what always makes the live experience so great is the building tension when waiting for the band to walk up the stage after the soundcheck :) Hope you will get to see them again soon!

Re: What are you listening to?

No one is forcing anyone to listen to anything, people make their own choices. And let's be honest, pop music isn't always all that bad. I've discovered some really good music on the radio. np: Sunn O))) - Orthodox Caveman Black One (2005) Okay, so this isn't exactly pop stuff, if this were played o...

Re: Pande-reviews: 1996.2 (FSOL - Dead Cities)

Cool stuff, and thanks for linking to that site with the photograph of the guys at that time. Anyone knows what's the deal with the pig in many of the photographs in the (limited edition) booklet art? I believe you can also hear some pigs squeel at the end of "We Have Explosive" :-) I for ...

Re: What are you listening to?

Been listening the new Ulver, titled "Messe I.X-VI.X" pretty much non-stop since its release a few weeks back. Album of the year 2013 for sure.

But now, being in the mood for some gangsta-rap: Scarface - No Tears :D
