Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song

Strange, that it was during those 4 years of hiatus when I discovered FSOL, first only with DC & Lifeforms, and around 2000 I began interesting for electronic music more general, looking for stuff similar to FSOL and The Orb, and I bought the missing pieces in FSOL's discog, ISDN, Accelerator an...

Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song

@Neil For DC material from the archives Vol.5 is best I suppose, the tracks on there are from a scrapped DC-successor album from 97/98, and in a very similar mood, dark, beat driven tracks and a very nice flow throughout. Otherwise a lot of tracks from DC-area are scattered across the whole archives...

Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song

Great write up as always! DC will always be the definite fsol album for me I guess. Perfect flow from start to finish, also WHE fits perfectly imo. It was my first fsol album and the first electronic music release I bought at a time when I listened mostly guitar based stuff. Maybe it's because I hea...

Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song

Very interesting reads! Keep up the good work, really looking forward to any new piece! Interesting that you describe "Cascade 3"/"elaborate burn" as dark and unsettling - don't really feel it that way, the only Lifeforms-related track I would describe as dark and downright distu...

Re: RSD 2021 Releases

Whoa, that's some heavy "in yer face" stuff on there! But also suprisingly atmospheric.
Would agree, definitely the most 'IDM'-sounding FSOL release so far. Great stuff

Re: FSOL - Music for Three Books / Music from Calendars

I actually do miss some of the tracks I really hoped would make it on the album - if I had to choose a 'best of' from the calendars 2017-2019 it would have been a quite different tracklist I'm afraid :) lots of the dark and brooding stuff on there, think I would have prefered the more melodic pieces...

Re: enrico berio mixes amorphous andogynous

After multiple listens in the last few weeks I can say for me the "We Persuade..."-EP is the most beautiful thing they ever released under the AA alias. Absolute stunning, incredible elaborate production, works perfectly as an album of its own, the song itself is a outstanding catchy tune,...

Re: FSOLDigital Calendar

Just listened to the whole 2020 album for the first time. Brilliant stuff, works quite well again as a cohesive listen.
Along with the recent 3 calendar albums, the controlled vista's (they make a pretty double CD), Cascade2020, and the 2 AA-CD's it was a quite productive couple of months recently :)

Re: The Amorphous Androgynous - Listening Beyond the Head Chakra

Just managed to listen to the first CD, but I already love it. The actual track itself is a wonderful piece, despite the many layers of sound with orchestra and choir and the like, it is a quite catchy tone imo. As Ross stated it's a much more "song"-like affair than the more electronic, c...

Re: RSD 2020 - Cascade 2020, We Persuade Ourselves... MPB Remixes, PNG (Weatherall Remix)

Ok just had a quick research :) the synth sound starting around minute 2:42 in Env Part 1 seems to come from the same sound source than that dominant synth sound all over the "pod room" track from ephedrina. Though it's not EXACTLY the same, but in my mind I always connected it with the al...

Re: RSD 2020 - Cascade 2020, We Persuade Ourselves... MPB Remixes, PNG (Weatherall Remix)

The same synth sequence comes in around the five minute mark of Cascade Part 1 from the original single. It deviates heavily from there. What are the Ephidrina samples on Environments? I think I missed them. No, not samples, more like a certain synth sound from one of the ephedrina tracks thats als...

Re: RSD 2020 - Cascade 2020, We Persuade Ourselves... MPB Remixes, PNG (Weatherall Remix)

What Falls Away is Always - And now we have a title for the Cascade-based Berlin School section of Environments Part 1! Works really well here, well enough to excuse the repeated material. First CD-only track. I was wondering where I'd heard it .... knew it was a while ago, for some reason I was th...
