Ananova, August 15th 2002: Future Sound Of London say they paved the way for boy bands

Future Sound Of London musician Garry Cobain claims he helped create the market for boy bands.
He says they thrived as a reaction to the mainstream success of his '90s experimental work with Brian Dougans.
But Cobain says people are bored by pop's simplicity now, and will return to "deeper" music.
FSOL's latest work, The Isness, has been released under the pair's Amorphous Androgynous moniker.
Cobain told Ananova: "I've done some really obscure music, which made the top 10. People reacted against that, they wanted something simple, so along came boy bands.
"Now though, there's a subconscious desire for things deeper. Culture is ready for exploration - the boybands are creating me again."
He describes The Isness as "a sampler-delic cosmic rock opera."
It contains input by musicians including Donovan, sitar player Baluji Shrivastav and ex-Captain Beefheart guitarist Gary Lucas.
Cobain says he and Dougans are working on an album of remixes from The Isness sessions, to be released as The Future Sound Of London before the end of the year.
"We're sampling bits from this record and putting them back together in different forms. If you sample material you tend to loop it more, which lends it a trance-like quality," he said.
"It's gonna be an LP full of psychedelia mixed in a bizarre way."
