FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 1 [radio mix] (26.12.1992)
- bootleg / first official release 15.11.2008, currently unavailable

Image

With the first official Kiss 100 transmission we can hear the leveling up in mixing, the mix is more fluent and there's much more ambient & environment mixing. Yage and Cyberface talk less, which is probably better... instead there are brilliant-crazy movie and TV snippets all around.

Appendix A:
In 1990 Pirate radio stations had to shut down for about 1 or 2 years otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to get onto the ballot for a license to broadcast on the air in London. And there were lots of local Pirate stations doing Reggae or Soul, some were good, some were awful... In the late 1980's till it shut down Kiss FM was the top Pirate station in London and had a strong following. I remember speaking to a Kiss DJ in 1988 who said they used 2 high rise blocks of flats to transmit. In one block they would play the vinyl and in an adjacent block of flats with a link in between where they would transmit. This was because if the Police locked on to where the transmitter was and raided the location they only got the transmitter, because the turntables and valuable vinyl tracks were in another location in the other block. They then had to get out quick otherwise all their vinyl was seized as was the Law at that time... In my eyes (or to my ears) they were heroes who just wanted to share their music... (Thanks guys if you read this)...

So, Kiss Mix 1, deconstructed and explained - read away! (and don't forget to Listen...)
(scroll to the end of the post to see just the tracklist)

This podcast features: (and I'd like to know where exactly !!) Mandree 2000 (possible misspell?) / Edgar Froese

Post by Pandemonium »

OK, after just a few days - I must say I love YouTube!! :)

There's only a few dozen previews on the mixes and no comments, and I already found 7 tracks! (read again the post above, it's updated)
How, well - the copyright companies report copyrighted material - and they send me the time-stamps and artist name and track name :)
and they don't even ask the content to be removed (for now)...
- What in the hell are they using to scan all that audio material, they must use some tech from the future :)

However, YouTube has to block the mixes for some countries, not to go in details but most of the mixes are blocked for Germany and USA, and some are even blocked for Montenegro & Serbia - why on Earth... that's pretty damn close to me... and some exotic islands are blocked too :)

EDIT: and I found another track from Kiss Test 2 @ 1:20:04 Paolo Visnadi - Transpassage (UMM, 1992)

EDIT 2: new-found track from Tiss Test 1 Part 3 @ 17:49 A.T.S. feat. Mr. Jay - Baa. Daa. Laa. (Baa. Daa. Vocal) (UMM, 1992)

EDIT 3: new-found track from Tiss Test 1 Part 4 @ 18:32 Terry Riley - A Rainbow In Curved Air (Columbia Masterworks, 1969)

EDIT 4: new-found track from Tiss Test 1 Part 4 @ 23:13 Aeoliah - The Light Of Tao (Sona Gaia Productions, 1984)

EDIT 5: new-found track from Tiss Test 1 Part 6 @ 22:15 The Cure - A Forest (Fiction Records, 1980)

EDIT 6: new-found track from Tiss Test 1 Part 6 @ 05:39 The Normal - Warm Leatherette (Mute, 1978)

EDIT 7 - probably the final one for a while :) - still lots of question-marks in Kiss 1, help me out guys :)

EDIT 8: found 4 more tracks on Kiss 1 - I'm tired of making bold sections, and re-write everything for the 15th time - so when you listen to it - just follow the tracks... this is exhausting - but sweet :)

FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 2 [radio mix] (19.05.1993)
- bootleg / first official release 15.11.2008, currently unavailable

Image

The second Kiss transmission was almost 5 months after the first one, and with no other B/G activity in-between.
What is actually amazing, is the fact that in the last 2-3 months of '92 and the first 5-6 months of '93, FSOL made so much awesome music that it's almost unbelievable. They had most of the Ephidrina / Lifeforms / Environments demo-ready, and about half the pieces of ISDN. Not to mention that in From The Archives series there is at least two more albums worth of material.

So, lots of exclusive unreleased FSOL material in the next transmission, and a nice sum of questionmarks too :)

Kiss Mix 2, deconstructed and explained - read away! (and don't forget to Listen...)
(scroll to the end of the post to see just the tracklist)

This podcast features: (and I'd like to know where exactly) Tangerine Dream / The Chemical Brothers (strange, at this point they only had two 12" released as Dust Brothers, and I can't hear them in the mix...) / Leftfield / Acid DIDJ (mistype?)

Tracklisting:

Pete - I have some ideas re: getting the live and discog sections of my site a bit more interactive - was going to discuss with you. Wiki is one idea.

Who the Hell Asked You, taken from the handwritten tracklist scan of a 1994 show I was sent a while ago. Lovely piece, too.

It really is amazing how much 1994 material was finished in early 1993. The time they must have spent putting the album together.

Exactly same sample is used at the very end of The Orb's 'Live'93' album ;-) Interesting.

This mix has many samples found in The Orb tracks. For example you can hear bells found at the beginning of Orb's 'Assassin (chocolate hills of bohol mix)'.

And...

Here are the same beats used for Saxophonettes - Secret Squirrel (my granny's favourite mix) (remixed by The Orb). http://www.discogs.com/Saxophonettes-Se ... ase/142248 (can't find it on You Tube - only orb-ient mix, which is beatless).

Somehow I missed it. From about 17:33 in the background the beat goes in. It's Yellow Magic Orchestra - Tong Poo (the orb remix I) from 'Hi-Tech/No Crime' remix album. http://www.discogs.com/Yellow-Magic-Orc ... ase/146536
It lasts until 19:23.

;-)

Thanks!! I've been around for some time, but I was only reading. I'm big Orb fan, so it's easy for me to find Orb snippets here and there. (I even run Orb-related site: http://orb-news.blogspot.com).

20:14 ???? - ???? at 1 - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 1 (Part 1) (29:26) is definitely not Orb ;-)

I was only able to listen to Kiss Transmission 1 and first part of Transmission 2. I also listened to Test Transmission 2 you have placed here, but I couldn't recognize anything.

BTW I love you reviews, they are very interesting. Keep Up the good work!!

Well, we all love Orb here :) ( - but not as much as FSOL - ) :)

- I made some final edits on the Kiss releases to make them easy on the eyes (there's still lots of reading though...)
and I'll leave then like this if someone doesn't have a better view-proposal :)

Ok, I'm after the rehearsal of both Test Transmissions and first 2 Transmissions. The only thing I was able to recognize is at Test Transmission 2 at Infonet Mix:

127:18 - The Orb - U.F.Orb (bandulu remix) - it lasts till the end of the mix.
