On a related thing to what we were saying...

Does anyone/everyone else here have the compulsion that, when they get into a band/artist, they want to get *everything* that they've done? For me, getting just one or two albums out of a larger discography isn't an option!

oh yes we've had this conversation before I believe

there are at least of few of us here ;)

personally i WILL skip an album once in a blue moon
every once in awhile an artist does an album that is absolutely nothing like the rest of his catalog and well that can at time just be a total miss for me. album full of silly noises, album full of obnoxious noise, paul mccartney's orchestral attempts lol

back in the day i would simply get everything but nowadays with the collection as huge as it is - it only makes sense to trim a bit of fat if i can!

Oh I used to be that, until it resulted in me spending far too much time on music I don't like. I can't think of a single artist with a large discography whose entire output I enjoy. There are a handful who I like most of it (FSOL included) but I no longer feel the need to own those that I don't like. I only have limited space and money!

I remember when I first discovered Cocteau Twins, their albums were quite hard go get, and I started HUNTING for them, I mean literally, I searched various record-shops and paid ridiculuos prices, and when I finally got those albums together, I learned about their singles and EP's with all the B-Sides (B-SIDES, still a term that triggers something...) and the search started again.... Oh those were the days... :)

I think my Cocteau Twins discog is quite complete today, thankfully they released all the ep/single-stuff in a nice little boxset... I'm not that crazy anymore nowadays, thank god, it's a healthier way to live... :)

I'm still a hunter. I have a problem. I do try my best not to get into too much new (to me) bands though, as the ones I already listen to keep me busy enough.

I have another strange obsession: If an artist releases a good album and then a bad one and then again a good one, I have to get the mediocre one in the middle too, so the chronology is kept :) I'm really somewhat obsessive with that...

np: Neon Indian - VEGA Intl. Night School
I really like this guy (=his music), very pitchfork-hipster-sounding indeed, but I find his new album very addictive again, he just nails it with being groovey, fonkey, dancey whatever, making positive vibrations all over. There is also again a healthy dose of acid-weirdness (the drug, not the techno-style) in his songs, a bit like Ariel Pink with beats or something. Lots of lush warped rainbow-coloured synth-sounds going on, just sweet.

System 7 - Manik Shamanik
Seventh Wave (2001)

This was recommended to me recently. Have listened to this album several times now. Not bad, not bad at all :)

Yeah, I do that as well. If they release a bad album, I'm willing to give up on them... but if, like you say, they then release a good one, I do feel the need to fill in the gap in the collection!

system 7 is awesome and as you can see razor that album is an older one

the past 3-4 albums have been their best imo

AND! make sure you don't skip their downtempo alter ego -> Mirror System!
