What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
I was just checking out some of their stuff and was very impressed. So the earlier stuff might be the best place to start then?
Re: What are you listening to?
Spleen and Ideal through to Aion is a brilliant run of albums, the debut is great but heavily endebted to goth stuff (early Cure, Banshees etc.)
The later albums have a lot of fans too - I'm not very keen on Into the Labyrinth at all, although I give Spiritchaser a spin a bit more. I prefer the medieval and European folk influence of the earlier records to the more ethnic sound of those two. Anastasis is solid but doesn't tread any new ground.

Although I did end up having an argument with myself last night, where I reminded myself that I'm not supposed to be getting into new bands - or at least not bands with several albums out. So I'll have to put Dead Can Dance on the back burner for now, as I don't want to risk getting into a full out fight with myself.

They really are one of those bands that shouldn't sit on the back burner
You're doin' too much, do less.
Re: What are you listening to?
I had never heard of DCD before Anastasis, and really love that album. Can't say I'm a big fan of their old work, except Spiritchaser.

Neurosis, Audio, Mogwai, Deftones, Endless Tapes, Ozric Tentacles, Chimaira and Terrorvision have all been played today. Might just about be able to squeeze the new Cracker album in soon too

Re: What are you listening to?
I may get around to giving Kafka/Castle a go some time, it's part of the newer lot I've not heard. My main beef with the latter day stuff is the sonic palette which just seems quite narrow and non changing. There's a series of sounds that Edgar seems hooked on. I quite liked the Nagasaki series in general, it seemed to interest Edgar a bit more.
Gave one of the Phish recommendations a partial listen just before Xmas. I'll probably make a purchase and give it a better listen at some point. It came across as being how I'd imagine late period Dead would sound like if I liked it, if that makes sense. A more enjoyable version if you see what I mean.

Re: What are you listening to?
Haha oh God, yes. The most worrying thing is that it's labelled 'Volume One'. Also avoid Madcap's Flaming Duty while you're at it.
Atomic Seasons are nice but a bit sandy after a while. Did you listen to Jeanne D'Arc?
