I got these a few days ago - but haven't had time to write
I also got a little photo with the Archived 8 CD - signed by Brian

Re: FSOL - Archived 8
I'm with you on that one. There is certainly some interest on A8 and the rest of the Archived and Environments series, but it would be good to see a brand new FSOL album released. Something more than unreleased and reworked offcuts, is full of ideas, beautifully put together and really does stand up there with Lifeforms and Dead Cities (nearly 20 years since the release of the latter)darktrain wrote:im still holding out for an official new FSOL album - triple gatefold vinyl - buggy g riphead visuals..
Re: FSOL - Archived 8
Well, Environment Five was all new pieces so no offcuts there. Quite why they wanted to release it as part of the series is a whole different discussion of course.
A 'proper' new album will be along. One day.

Re: FSOL - Archived 8
Yes, I would count E5 as a new FSOL album - the fact that it's included in a series that isn't all new material doesn't make any difference, surely? So, I would say that already is the "proper" new album. So it's more just a question of when the *next* proper full album might be...
Re: FSOL - Archived 8
New material, yes. But still based around the Environments series. IMHO E5 and A8 never felt anywhere near as 'complete' as Lifeforms or Dead Cities side by side as albums.
Edit: Just saw the Nick McCabe post. Here's hoping!

- About the Sorrow / Film Polski confusion:
Brian: - Film Polanski was someone else - I recorded it from somewhere as a teen. It's stuck with me as a great piece. - I merged it with sorrow on EBS - gave the credit to him.
- About the weird/unusual/non-FSOL style of Still Motion:
Brian: The beat was sitting around on a dat tape from 95. Obviously some loose experiment back then - I grabbed it and added some synth bits that were also hanging. Married the two and added some bass. - half modern but lingers in the distant past.

Re: FSOL - Archived 8
Still Motion is one of my favourites from A8 - from the style of it, I presumed it was a new track, so I'm kinda surprised that, at least part of it, has been sitting around for 20 years.
Re: FSOL - Archived 8
Ah well everything on the Archive releases has to be at least partially old, hence the 'archive'!
Re: FSOL - Archived 8
True! But I thought it might have been archived from recent Environments recordings or something I thought it maybe had an E4-era vibe - but then again, I guess a good chunk of E4 stuff was re-worked 90s out-takes as well.Ross wrote:Ah well everything on the Archive releases has to be at least partially old, hence the 'archive'!
