Re: A Space of Partial Illumination e7.002 out October 2022

I'm kind of glad it's not released until October now, for a while I thought it was going to be released before my physical copy of Rituals even arrived. It gives me at least a bit more time to absorb Rituals a bit more, along with the calendar albums from the last two years which I had not listened to. Also, I think I've only listened to Mind Maps 3 once all the way through so far. While Environments 6 and 6.5 (or should that be Six and 6.5?) coming out simultaneously was quite exciting, it was all a bit overwhelming and I still feel I didn't listen to them as much as I should have.

Yeah hopefully I would've got round to listening to my cd copies of st8818r, e7.0000001.01 and Mindmaps 1-3 by then

I was hoping for the whole trilogy this year. :) But I can wait, too.

If they push it back one more week, that would make it RSD Black Friday...

So do we think there will be some kind of connection (musically) between these e7 releases? Can’t see an obvious connection between the titles, Rituals, and A Space of Partial Illumination. I was expecting the title to follow on thematically from Rituals - oh how naive am I?!

I remember a long time ago they said each album was a theme for a given ‘environment’. Environment Five was about dying (and presumably the spiritual afterlife). I never heard if the Environment 6 albums had a theme.

Love the new e7.02 cover. 😀

No overt themes that I'm aware of other than Five, which begun by Brian as a response to his father's death.

7.02 news:
  • Stores are now listing 14th and 21st October as dates, suggesting we'll probably get a release from the band at the start of the month, maybe only a couple of weeks now.
  • CD will feature four bonus tracks.
  • CD and LP artwork is different.
  • The running order seems to have changed. The 12 tracks shared over both formats are now as such:
    1. A Space of Partial Illumination (5:30)
    2. If That Were to Occur (3:16)
    3. Intents and Purpose (4:06)
    4. Embodied Cognition (4:03)
    5. Long Green Field (2:24)
    6. Temporary Aliasing (5:16)
    7. In Solitude We Are At Least Alone (Waltz) (2:38)
    8. Frozen Height (3:07)
    9. Informal Horizon (5:27)
    10. Ephemeral (2:58)
    11. All This Has Happened Before (5:42)
    12. How Forests Think (4:56)

Question for the board. Has anyone in the United States received a CD copy of E7.001??? I'm wondering if I need to ping FSOL about that or if it's a Brexit shipping delay.

Brexit shouldn’t have much affect outside of mainland Europe, I’d definitely drop an email.

Mine never arrived, and I am in the UK. I think I contacted them via Bandcamp in the end after waiting for about a month. Graham got back to me quickly and sorted it out, his theory was it got lost in the post.

A vinyl-related issue is delaying this a little. More news soon.

It was due for release last week, but there was an issue with the vinyl. Fingers crossed it'll be in the next few days. I think the 14th is a very bold claim, but it should be before the street date of the 21st.

It's also worth noting that some stores have dates of 18th November still, and almost nowhere actually has the CD even listed for pre-order. Meanwhile, Horizons Music have it listed as being released last week. Amazon.com states it came out on 2nd July, Saturn.de has 28th October. I think it's a case of wait and see.

I’m going to guess there’ll be a Bandcamp release this week regardless, so sales aren’t lost to Juno etc who will be shipping the CD on Friday. As for the vinyl, they’re still hoping copies will available this week, if not then it’ll be very soon. So I reckon it’ll be here before Friday.

Out now!
https://fsol.bandcamp.com/album/a-space ... tion-e7002
Bonus tracks:
13. Mangy Burger 02:45
14. A Stationary Air Mass 05:14
15. Exists to Remove Doubt 02:20
16. Sophies Path 04:38

Thoughts:
Bandcamp title is A Space of Partial Illumination E7.002, but the CD and LP versions are both E7.02.
CD has different artwork to the LP, a warped photo of some pipes with rainbow colouring.
Bonus tracks aren't listed on the CD art.
'Mangy Burger' is the least FSOL title ever; 'Sophies Path' is named after Brian's cat.
Only 'FSOL' appears in the band's usual font, the rest in a new typeface not seen on an FSOL release before.
There is no reference at all to E7.02 on the CD spine, further moving away from the 'Environments' name.
