Never heard about this guy, though he seems to be around for quite a while. The source material for the AA remixes is definitely a great track anyway. Will give this a listen.

Incredible, isn't it? What a strange world we live in. Mind you, everybody reckoned Barking was the best Underworld record since Second Toughest in the reviews, which it blatantly isn't.
I think most of the people who are giving Wonky positive reviews haven't a clue what made Orbital great in the first place, and just hear this as a 'good dance album' rather than something to rank alongside In Sides, Snivilisation, Brown and Green. Or they're mad/deaf.
Well ....................... I finally got round to hearing this as it was only a couple of quid on Amazon last week. Not quite sure what happened but they seemed to preview, release singles for, and make videos for all the worst tracks on the album. Everything else they kept completely quiet about is really darn good, it's just that it's hidden amongst some really horrible junk (mainly the oh-jesus-no title track). Remove Beelzedub & Wonky (originally I would've also said New France but that's grown on me) and possibly Never just (mainly because of its meanderingness) and you've got a pretty solid album.

Ah. I've heard the whole thing and it still sounds like shite to me. Distractions sounds like the backing track to some pop-urban track, stuff like Straight Sun sounds like the kind of thing I stumble across on Soundcloud made by some kid who's been using Reason for a couple of months... the first track's ok, that's about as much as I can really say about it. It all just sounded really flat and dull. Their 90s stuff has that wonderful huge dynamic sound with the chunky drums and really big analogue synths, and this just sounds like... well, some kid who's been using Reason for a couple of months. Maybe I'll give it another listen in six months to see if anything has changed.

Yeah that's one thing I don't like about it (and the reason why I now turn my nose up a lot of techo-y electronica) and that's how digital the whole thing sounds. It makes it sound really clinical and lifeless and the whole album feel that it's missing something, it's the same reason I haven't really enjoyed anything from the Chemical brothers post the Surrender album - everything after that sounds like tech demos for music softwarre.

It's the same as The Altogether and Blue, they just sound so flat and... kind of anonymous. It's why Stringy Acid stands out (forgot that one last time), as it has all of those old school acid sounds in. Having some warm analogue or acoustic sounds in there is really important unless it's (relatively) abstract in itself, I think.

Well, Klaus is definitely better concept-artist than TD,
but TD is more spiritual... dunno, the latest TD albums are very good...

Interesting that you should say that. I gave that soundtrack a listen not too long ago. I think my favorite piece overall would have to be "The Mole" I think it's called.
