Little Dragon - Nabuma Rubberband

Seems to fit here, it's like plaid with soulful female vocals on top. Stands clearly up to their previous releases. Like this a lot.

first time i heard them you can be damn sure who i thought i was listening to
uncanny ability to replicate that tangerine dream arp improv sound

i'm no fan of ripping people off and in this instance i could never state this
it's so obviously a very passionate homage and helping to keep that 70s electronica sound alive

i'm just getting my feet wet with these dudes and totally love it thus far

Sadly, there is a massive scene of middle aged blokes trying to keep the Berlin School thing alive. RMI are one of the more tolerable acts.

i would say generally that any form of "keeping music alive" is a good thing

Keeping something alive as in sustaining it and letting it grow = a good thing
Keeping something alive as in attempting to keep an already old, dated sound around, zombie-style = less good

personally i don't need someone like RMI to move that sound forward and it's actually the preservation that i admire.

i'm not sure what you mean by "zombie style"
do you just mean the vibe of the music is boring?
or that this is the approach of the many acts you speak of - that they are essentially brainlessly "going through the motions"??
i can see how this would rub the wrong way but i haven't experienced any of these acts.

with RMI i don't find either to be the case......as said earlier i personally hear the passion in their sound and desire to preserve.

I agree with Ross on this on the whole Berlin School thing. There is a vast galaxy of acts doing this and 99% of it really is just creating a pastiche of something they're a bit too precious of. It is perhaps difficult to explain without being overly exposed to it. Don't get me wrong, I have a few RMI albums and think they're actually fairly creative with it.

I've also been suckered into what has been billed by some as peerless invention. You buy it and discover all they've done is attempted to forensically recreate Tangerine Dream's Rubycon, Ricochet or Encore with slightly altered melodies. It's a very narrow creative field that's not allowed to grow, by either the fans or the musicians.
