The game has followed me unplayed through at least 3 phones worth of restored backups - I keep meaning to give it a proper go but for some reason it just sits on my phone all dusty and cold.

With "unplayed" you mean "never begun"? In the beginning it's quite fun (if you like the genre), then it becomes more and more difficult to the point of being quite frustrating. I am not sure that I would recommend it, at least until the end.
