Stakker - Eurotechno (the whole video)

Post by mcbpete »

This video may well get removed due to copyright shenanigans (or possibly not as is long out of print and has been up on there for over a year now) but someone's uploaded the whole 26 minutes of the Eurotechno VHS onto Youtube -

Interesting to note (though you guys may already know this) that the credits for the sound performance read - Brian Dougans, Colin Scott and Mark McClean. I thought Stakker was a solo project by Brian - who are the other two guys ?

Mark McClean = Buggy G Riphead :)

Colin Scott - another visual guy on Eurotechno

I think they were both visuals guys and helped with some ideas for sound...

I think Buggy mentioned everybody on that recent interview that we stumbled upon 2-3 years ago...
it was called Acid Story by Buggy G Riphead - can't find it on youtube, I have it on my PC though...

Stakker was the name of the graphics company which also graced this release.
Humanoid is Brian's solo music.

I've got the Eurotechno CD that came out about a decade ago. I have to admit I find it pretty hard to listen to. Each track is about a minute long so the whole thing is unsettling. Maybe it'll be a nicer experience with visuals (man).

Yeah not quite sure why the Eurotechno CD release wasn't just a recording of the above video, I think I've only heard the CD a couple of times as the change to a different track every minute gets a bit wearing...

There's one section - track 7, I think? Quite a dark sinister one - which I absolutely love. The rest of it's an absolute headfuck. Humanoid Sessions is a bit better but again the scattered feel of it all is a bit heavy going.

I always wondered why there weren't more proper full-length, properly produced and mastered acid house tracks from the time and why Brian focused on the garagey vocal stuff for Global.

The guy on keyboards is 'B-Dog' I suppose? Or did they hire another dude for stage performing? It's hard to recognize on the video, but a Mr. Dougans doing a live performance is actually a rather unusual view.

Brian is on keyboards, definitely - but the question is - who is on the (air) guitar :D

Hard to see any real detail due to the quality of the video, but I always assumed it was Garry. The guy is lanky enough. He probably needed something to do back then, so Brian told him to look busy...

Could be him, though Stakker was a project between Brian, Mark McClean and Colin Scott (latter two doing the visuals) and Gary wasn't part of that alias. Possibly just a Top Of The Pops supplied person to fill up the stage more as otherwise it'd be a reprise of Orbital's infamous Chime performance:

EDIT: Oops - my mistake, Orbital's performance was two years later than the Stakker one.
