The Cartel
Re: The Cartel
Long shot but I wonder if anyone else has had the issue i am having with ripping The Cartel Vol 2 CD?
My preference is to buy CDs and do a secure rip using dbpoweramp rather than purchase downloads. In the vast majority of cases I am able to rip error free.
However with a brand new copy of The Cartel Vol 2 (purchased from the FSOL website) the rip kept failing due to disc errors. I tried using a different optical drive with the same issues and also Exact Audio Copy (another secure CD ripper) again with the same issues.
I then purchased another brand new copy of the The Cartel Vol 2 CD only to have the same issues! It is really frustrating.
Anyway i suspect there may be an issue with mastering of this CD. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone else come across this same issue?

Thanks Ross
iTunes rips in burst mode though which doesn't check for errors.
See https://www.dbpoweramp.com/help/dmc/CDadvanced.htm for secure ripping info.

Re: The Cartel
I know there's obviously a big difference between people who are very particular about their files and those who just use them for convenience, but could you just not rip using other software and then listen to hear if there are errors?
Re: The Cartel
The problem with secure rips is that it's only as good as the rip that was first submitted. I use dbpoweramp and it doesn't always come back with an accurate rip. Like Ross, I'd advise listening to it and trusting your ears over what the software is telling you.

Re: The Cartel
If EAC fails there's definitely something wrong.
- It's probably your optical drive... or a combination of weird circumstances.
I totally get what you want to achieve - I do that too (and I also had problems with 'FSOL - Archive Vol.7') - but to be honest - I bought the Cartel CDs and downloaded them before they even arrived, from a certain private tracker that has VERY strict rules about perfect FLACs and EAC handling.
The LOG file from the dude that ripped it is enough for me:

Re: The Cartel
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I need to just rip in burst mode for the moment and hope for the best! In the meantime I'll try a different laptop and see if that makes a difference. I'll report back if I have any luck.

Lap-top optical drives are 99% shit-class -- try a PC or a Mac.

Re: The Cartel
i think the issue is that EAC isn't failing per se he just isn't getting the accurate rip confirmation for each track?
pcalv.....are you having issue with the same two tracks in the log file pande posted???
i'm pretty anal with this stuff but really if i get the "no errors occured" from EAC i feel good enough.
There are guides out there for setting up and tweaking EAC to optimal performance
let us know if you need us to point you to those links.
it may not fix your issue but still a good thing to look into imo

Here my logs from dbpoweramp from 2 different optical drives. Just to repeat this is the 2nd new copy i have purchased of this disc - the first had the same problems and also i never encounter these problems with any other discs:

Re: The Cartel
dbPowerAmp is really good for MP3 but really shitty for FLAC - please stick to EAC for FLACs,
Please try with EAC and use these settings:

Re: The Cartel
Ah that was what I was trying to hunt for. Still using the EAC settings from my old laptop and I think my current drive hates it and takes an insane time to rip CDs.seedy wrote:man the old blowfish EAC guide is gone :(l

Re: The Cartel
well EAC is pretty slow if you are ripping properly but yeah you should always adjust your setting when switching drives because you have that read offset jank and whatnot
