AFAIK, Wilson heard Opeth for the first time and then decided "hey, I want to sound like those guys!" and he did end up producing them. I think that the respect is mutual since Opeth declared that PT is the best fucking band in the world (or something like that).. they guy is seriously a producer genius. My first reaction to PT was "holy shit this sounds good!", same with FSOL :D

On my player right now:

ritual ambient/fetish/experimental stuff.. hella weird. Love these guys.

Speaking of which, have you heard the album Steven Wilson made with the guy from Opeth? Storm Corrosion is the name of the band and album. A lot more mellow than you might think ;)

I guess that's people who listen to jazz ? :)

I must say - my Jazz collection is about the same size as my electronic collection, but I also must say that I haven't dedicated as much time to jazz as I do to the electronic section. I guess I'm keeping the jazz for 'old' age :)

Anyway, I can really say I'm sort of a Miles Davis expert :) as well as a few more giants...

i like a good dose of jazz though not as much the traditional type

my favorite which would be loosely classified as jazz or at the very least jazz oriented is Medeski Martin and Wood
the earlier stuff is pretty danceable and the more recent albums are more off the wall like sun ra

i like a lot of prog/fusion/funk type jazz i.e. weather report, return to forever, jean luc ponty, herbie hancock funk, miles funk, john scofield

Oh and one more jazz type dude i've recommended here before as well -> Charlie Hunter
dude plays an 8 string guitar which consists of 3 bass strings and 5 guitar
he plays both roles in every band he's been in
quite a big sound he can make with just himself and a drummer :)

Is that new Orb-thing available on cd? Sounds good.

After recently digging through a pile of 70ies Kraut-electro including the classic TD-stuff (the albums from Phaedra - Stratosfear are simply phenomenal) and stuff like Cluster and Harmonia, I would love to finaly get hold on the 70ies Klaus Schulze stuff but it seems all the good ones (from Timewind to X) are completely not available at the moment on CD. I hate this. Even on ebay the price for the 2007 Revisited Records edition of Mirage begins at 42 EUR, fuck it. I mean I would love to spend some hard earned money, but sometimes you're forced to go the illegal way :)

I think Alpine is just available on 12" and download, unfortunately.

1000Schoen - Sowlong
Yoshiwara (2007)

Still as bloody brilliant as when I started getting into this obscure band back in the early MySpace days, when they released a 10 minute "teaser" of this drone/ambient masterpiece.
