I assume Lucy's your GF?
I sometimes thought that I'd be cool if my gf liked same music that I did, but when some got a bit into electronic music (especially ambient), it was weird.. maybe it's such a masculine form of music so that it's kinda turn off for me.
I know a lot of girls that like psytrance and heavier rock/metal.. maybe they just want music with some balls and they like to party. I had an EX that was into goth/metal stuff and she couldn't stand electronic or "too" melodic music at all (although she liked older rock bands like Aphrodite's Child, The Doors and Rolling Stones). I played her Dead Cities once 'tho and she thought it was "kinda cool". She didn't even smoke weed 'tho, so that could've been a issue..
anyway, BTT:

Oh, I don't mean reviews (I don't bother with the press any more), just what people on forums etc. have said.
I think 'Get Lucky' might be one of the most appalling pieces of music I've heard from a band that I like.

The High Llamas - Can Cladders
Damn I love this. Sean O Hagan makes the most wonderful String/Brass-Orchestrations since Max Richters work for FSOL/AA.
This is enchanting me completely at the moment. 60ies pop-heaven at its best.

Yeah. To be honest, music is such a huge part of my life that I couldn't be in a relationship with someone who didn't have at least some taste in common with me. There's a lot of stuff one of us likes that the other doesn't, but there's a nice midground also.

Yes indeed it is poppy funk, but the performance and production are incredible.
It captures the '70s sound when radio pop music was actually high-quality music and POP had a whole different meaning back then.
True, there are slimy and catchy parts, but you have to get past that and listen to the music,
it took me up to two years studying this kind of sound, I mean...
people like us here on the forum, who listen to unconventional mainstream sounds,
it really takes time and learning to like this sound, because there is quality in this sound and if you hear it, it is really enjoyable
- I mean, FSOL studied this sound too, you can see in my reviews that Mental Cube is full of it, and even later, the funky elements (without the pop I must add) are all over Isness

Have to admit, Get Lucky is basically the only song I've enjoyed from DP so far.. vocoders and electro.. just not my thing. I just don't get they hype, same thing with Boards Of Canada.
Blasting out the new Filter album now, pretty overproduced and poppy.. it's like none of the songs stand out.
Also listened to Lights Out Asia - Hy-Brasil a few times in a row (sorta post rock/ambient), great stuff, probably their best so far IMO. CRIMINALLY underrated.

I dont know if Im an 90's guy, but I believe there has been a tremendous decline in music of all mainstream styles, rock/metal, hip hop, pop etc since then. Going back in time and listening to the oldies, even the shittiest rock bands sound awesome comparing to nowadays crap that sounds like a teen party, im not even going to speak about genuine hip-hop that practically died in the mid 90's, rnb has become unlistenable and pop is not pop anymore, but a weird blend of electronica that sounds like shit. There is only one Daft Punk song i really love which is "Around the World", but everything else they have done is not for me, yes they are amazing producers but all this vocoder thing is too much I think, they could write a masterpiece album in my opinion like they proved in their soundtrack for Tron Legacy, but . . .
Now playing Pat Metheny - What's It All About with a magical cover of "The Sound Of Silence".

D-Bridge was crazy good even back in 1998 when he was part of Bad Company, one of the greatest d'n'b groups that ever existed.
