Introducing Myself

Hi all, I just joined after the link was posted in the mixlr live feed, though I've listened to all live transmissions of Mind Maps (and some other Touched Music stuff since then).

So quick music intro about myself:
- as a kid I played the saxophone, but my parents had Kraftwerk and Wendy Carlos records, which was a bigger influence on me
- first heard of FSOL in the mid 1990s, when as a teen I got into stuff like Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Aphex Twin
- growing up in Germany and not connected to the electronic music scene (most of my friends are metal heads or goths), I usually only got the FSOL album CDs, was amazed when someone showed me a Lifeforms EP vinyl in Oxford back in 1995 I guess
- was never on any electronic music online boards or mailing lists
- tried to do some music with vintage synths in the early 2000s, but went on to have other hobbies.
- found out about FSOL digital around 2010

Other than FSOL, my current favorite acts are Amon Tobin, Seefeel, Aphex Twin, DJ Spooky, and Boards of Canada. Yes, growing up in Germany in the 90s and 00s and not listening to German techno was very lonely :D
(OK, so speaking of Germany, I do like Mouse on Mars and some Alec Empire stuff)

edit: my user name is my actual first name with appendix

Maybe one thing I am curious about: when I was searching for FSOL material anywhere back in the 2000s, I found two things outside the regular releases and wanted to know how well known they are:

- an Astralwerks compilation called "Rarewerks", that featured a 6 minute excerpt of "Live in New York". Astralwerks is an American distributor of a lot of UK electronic music
- Inner City - Praise CD had "Praise (The Future Sound Of London Conceptual)" on it, found it at the flea market

Hello and welcome! This place is pretty quiet compared to how it used to be but we're still trundling on, always good to see new members!

Live in New York is also on the Promo 500 2x12" EP put out in 1994, but it's probably one of the band's more obscure '90s tracks nevertheless.
The Inner City remix is one of the better known ones.

Take a peek at the Compliation tracks & Remixes thread, there might be other stuff you're unaware of!

Welcome! It is often quiet around here, but usually picks up with main EP or LP releases :)

Oddly I'm actually happy about this nowadays - The state of that mixlr chat feed at the weekend is the kinda pace that makes me instantly on edge as a mod/admin  Having a nice manageable amount of users and a lowish per-month post count makes me less anxious when I'm not here 24/7 (especially this summer when I was away more than I was here due to various life shenanigans)

In the end I had a 1h lag in the chat and almost missed the release,
