- there will be a promo video on YouTube - don't miss it.
- some background info for the fans:
The guy in the BlackHill video on YouTube is Bill Dougans (Brian's dad). Recording from 1956 - setting up (in sight mast) - part of when he worked at BlackHill.
BlackHill was/is a TV/radio (and now HD) transmission mast for the south of Scotland - Bill, amongst a few other, was tasked with setting it up and getting it working.
Bill Dougans died in 2013 (aged 84), when the Blackhill Transmitter series started, so in a way BlackHill is a homage to him.
BlackHill also uses recordings made by Bill.
The drums on BlackHill are live - played by Brian Dougans in his basement - so it turns out he's a pretty good drummer too, knowing a thing or two about the jazzy side - especially on that last track

The Blackhill Transmitter project has got to be the most well-realised of all the solo/side-project releases on FSOLDigital, just really great overall. When the t-shirt appeared I was hoping for a physical release of some of this. This is the highlight of the series so far...
Oh and the drums on the last track aren't by Brian - an old friend from the '80s, apparently.
Available as FLAC and MP3 (320kbps) download only.
The third outing from Blackhill Transmitter with there usual blend of Kruat and Granular synthesis.
“Rain struck the tower but we persistted – the broadcast was scheduled, it had to go ahead.
Suddenly we were plunged into darkness – silence – nothing – then the noises started – slowly building – the transmission had begun…”
TRACKLISTING:
01 – Cease to Function (5:19)
02 – Battery Room (3:07)
03 – Returning (3:04)
04 – Recovery (3:54)

I like this, and feel I need to play each EP back to back now. This one somehow sounds a little more like the first EP than the second, it's got a more electronic feel to it than the second, though kind of has a few elements of the second on it. Good to see this project has legs. Might have to get one of the blackhill transmitter t-shirts, even if it turns out to be a bit of a crop top on me.

I thought part-sub-merged was introspective - but this one is even better.
The three EPs could easily form a 54 minute album...

Yeah, of all the side projects I'd love to get a wider release, I'd have to say this is at the top of my list. I prefer this to The Woodlands of Old, I think.
